Samsung's Galaxy Unpacked event has just wrapped up in London, and it was a big one. Instead of one Fold, Samsung took to the stage to reveal three new foldables: the all-new Galaxy Z Fold 8, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, and the Galaxy Z Flip 8. By the end of this article you'll know exactly what's new on each one, and what it actually means for you day to day. Let's get into it.

The Fold 8 takes on a genuinely new shape, and Samsung's calling it the lightest Fold it's ever made at 201 grams and 4.5mm thick when unfolded. It's available in Lavender, Graphite, Cream and Pistachio, built with Flex Titanium (a dual layer of titanium reinforcing the screen from underneath) plus Armor Aluminum and Gorilla Glass, so it's built to last as well as look good.

The bigger change is in how the two screens are shaped. The cover screen is a 10:16 ratio built for scrolling social feeds one-handed, and unfolding it reveals a 4:3 main screen designed for films, e-books and long-form reading. Both hit 3000 nits of peak brightness, with anti-reflective coating on the main screen, so glare isn't an issue whether you're reading on the sofa or out in full sun.

Now Nudge is the headline Galaxy AI feature here, and it's a genuine time-saver. It reads what you're doing and offers a shortcut, so a text about weekend plans might nudge you to open your calendar in split view without switching apps manually. My FanCam does some of the editing for you too: point it at a group video and it picks out one person, then reframes the whole clip around them, ready to share.

The dual 50MP camera (wide and ultra-wide) pairs with Nightography, using Samsung's ProVisual Engine to handle noise reduction in real time, so evening shots and even 8K video stay clean rather than grainy. It's powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy, with a 4800mAh battery good for up to 26 hours of video playback and storage stretching all the way to 1TB.

If you want the biggest screen and the most power in the range, this is where Samsung's put it all. At 4.1mm thick and 215 grams, the Fold 8 Ultra is the slimmest Fold yet, built with the same Flex Titanium and Armor Aluminum as the Fold 8, in Violet Shadow, Graphite, Cream or Green Shadow.

Unfolded, the main screen measures a huge 8 inches, the largest in the whole range, built for running two or three apps side by side rather than juggling one window at a time. Peak brightness is up 15% on the Fold 7, reaching 3000 nits, so it stays properly usable even working from a café table in full sun.

The camera is where this one really pulls ahead: a 200MP wide lens paired with an upgraded 50MP ultra-wide, giving 34% better brightness than the Fold 7's ultra-wide, plus up to 30x digital zoom for detail you'd otherwise need to walk right up to. Nightography and ProVisual Engine carry over from the Fold 8, 8K video recording's on board too, and a new AI image signal processor sharpens selfies from both the cover and main cameras.

The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy chip delivers 21% faster AI performance, 15% better graphics and 16% faster processing than the Fold 7, and the 5000mAh battery, the biggest in the line-up, is rated for up to 27 hours of video playback. Translation: a full day of multitasking, streaming and photography shouldn't leave you hunting for a charger.

Last but not least is the Flip 8, and it's Samsung's thinnest and lightest Flip yet: 8 grams lighter than the Flip 7 and just 6.1mm thick when unfolded. That difference is easy to feel; it disappears into a pocket rather than making its presence known, and a smoother Armor FlexHinge means it opens with barely any effort. It comes in Pink, Graphite, Cream and Mint.

The cover screen, FlexWindow, has grown to a proper 4.1 inches, big enough to run full apps without unfolding the phone at all. That means replying to messages, checking the weather or glancing at your calendar takes seconds, not a full unfold every time. Now Brief takes it further, pulling together a personalised briefing from your weather, health and travel info right on that cover screen, and you can customise exactly what it shows you just by typing what you'd like to see.

If you're fed up asking strangers to take your photo, FlexCam is the reason to upgrade. Fold into FlexMode and the 50MP wide camera becomes a hands-free stand, with Auto Zoom framing everyone in shot and Dual Preview letting your subject see themselves as you film. Super Steady video keeps footage level even if you spin a full 360 degrees, and Flip Shot lets you customise the cover screen with a photo or a handwritten message for mirror selfies with a bit more personality. Photo Assist means you can describe an edit in a few words and watch Galaxy AI make the change for you.

Powering it all is an Exynos 2600, customised for Galaxy, bringing a 41% jump in AI performance, 25% better graphics and 30% faster processing than the Flip 7. In practice that's smoother multitasking and quicker AI edits without the phone breaking a sweat. The 4300mAh battery is rated for up to 31 hours of video playback, the best of any Flip Samsung's made, and storage runs up to 512GB, so you're not stuck clearing out old photos to make room for new ones.
