This Mental Health Awareness Week, running from the 11th to the 17th of May, we're proud to partner with Mental Health UK to launch our new campaign, ‘Make It A Call’. We've designed this initiative to support your mental wellbeing by championing better, more meaningful connections. Staying in touch might feel easier than ever today with messaging apps at our fingertips, but many of us are actually feeling less connected. 33% of Brits admit to making fewer phone calls than they did 10 years ago! While text messages, voice notes, and social media give us incredible convenience, they often lack the depth we need to feel truly heard and supported.

Growing hesitation around phone calls

Our recent research reveals a growing hesitation around making a phone call. In fact, 51% of Brits admit that making a phone call makes them feel anxious and 55% worry about interrupting a loved one's day with a call! Mobile calls are facing a huge decline across the UK as people increasingly favour messaging apps.

You might feel uncertain about what to say, fear bothering someone, or simply feel out of practice. But over time, avoiding real conversations fuels feelings of isolation, lowers your mood, and results in less meaningful relationships. We want to help change that.

The power of hearing a voice.

We're encouraging you to make one simple, highly impactful shift: This Mental Health Awareness Week ditch the texts and make it a call instead! When you hear someone's voice, you catch their unique tone, share comfortable pauses, and enjoy genuine laughter. This helps you connect in a way that written messages simply can't match. Emerging research proves that a simple phone call reduces stress, boosts your mood, and strengthens relationships for both people on the line.

So to help lead this movement, we've teamed up with Big Zuu, a double BAFTA-winning presenter, rapper, and mental health advocate. Having started his career as a youth worker, he understands what it means to feel unheard, and he knows the powerful role that one-on-one conversation plays in creating genuine connection.

How you can get involved.

We invite everyone to take part! Pick up your phone, call a friend you haven't spoken to lately, or check in with a family member. Even a few minutes can make a massive difference to someone having a tough time.

You can also share your commitment on social media. Snap a photo of yourself making the Make It a Call hand sign, post it to your Instagram story, and tag someone you want to call more. Make sure you add the hashtag #MakeItACall and tag @idmobileuk.
