Definitely MUD, the precursor to video games.

I played it when I should have been studying at the University of Essex.

Probably GTA Vice City. So many memories playing that game after school. Even though the newer GTA games are technically better, I still love Vice City!

My favourite game of all time is probably Half-Life, its one of the most influential and ground-breaking games of all time, it reinvented the FPS genre, and people’s perspective of what can be done within FPS games. It also pushed forward people’s perspective of Videogame expansions, and DLC with the amazing entries Opposing Force and Blue Shift, I understand why so many people revere the former and adore Adrian Shephard. I’m not a big fan of microtransactions, but I do love DLC in terms of being spinoffs or expansions within a game made after release, and Opposing Force is an amazing example, especially since its made by Gearbox. I adore the Half-life series, I love Half-Life 2 and its episodes, I’ve only played a little of Alyx from playing it with my brother, but the original has so much charm, I love the gameplay and feel of it, I adore the presentation, its easily my fave in the series. Without Half-Life we wouldn’t get the amazing Portal games, and we wouldn’t have Steam, which is easily the best gaming platform, with its vast array of community features. Valve themselves have been incredibly supportive of fanmade content like mods, addons, original games made within their games, and even fangames, with them supporting Black Mesa and letting the creators sell it on Steam. Valve is one of the most innovative and important game companies, they aren’t without fault, but I genuinely feel they’re one of the few companies who actually do good and progress games as a medium forward, and Half-Life is what started it all.
