3 times failed credit check

I have never failed a credit check in my life with any company apart from ID.

3 times ID have failed my credit check. I own my property outright, no mortgage. I have no debts of any kind, I have savings and no overdraft. I have never had a ccj, never had a criminal record and I am CTC DBS checked... it's farcical that ID can't get this over the line... its actually pathetic.

Customer service is none existent. Their online chat sent me to the sales team, who said they couldn't discuss why they declined it even after verifying who i am, but suggested going back to customer service or trying again after 3 months???? What changes in three month is anyone's guess... There is no direct phone number so cannot discuss my issue, but have raised a complaint.

I have to be honest, I'm both disgusted by their service but now so intrigued as to why they keep denying my check that I want answers, an apology and possibly compensation considering they are actively taking £8 a month from my account for a monthly rolling sim... absolute joke of a company... woeful way to do business and totally disrespectful in the way they treat people.

I will pursue this and write the outcome here... I would suggest avoiding this company like the plague... choose a company that actually wants your custom and treats you with decency and respect.

Hi @StevenUTD ,

I’m really sorry to hear how frustrating this has been for you. Credit checks can sometimes fail for reasons that aren’t always obvious, and unfortunately, we’re unable to see the exact details of why an application was declined. This is because the decision is based on information provided by credit reference agencies, and we don’t have access to their full data.

Here’s what you can do next:

-You can request a copy of your credit report from agencies like Experian, Equifax, or TransUnion to check if there’s anything unusual.
-If everything looks fine, you can try applying again after 90 days, This timeframe allows the system to refresh your application status.
-Or email us at socialqueries@idmobile.co.uk with your details so we can review your complaint and ensure it’s handled properly.

My credit report is either good or excellent. Currently it sits at 645 of 710 on my natwest app which is considered excellent.

How can you refuse someone and not offer the reason why? Not once, not twice but three times... Do you recognise that having been declined by a company like yours it may influence others? Yet you can't provide an answer as to why?

I maintain my original comments... this is pathetic... what part of customer service is this?

What an awful company ID is... woeful servive absolutely pitiful.

I will await the response from your complaints teams then see if there are any legal avenues I can take to make you reveal the information you are holding on me...

Regards

I’m in the same position. Never been turned down for credit IN MY LIFE and now can’t get a contract with a 2 bit phone company???

To be honest, from what is being said online, I think it’s a scam. It’s probably an offer that they don’t want to honor then they try to persuade you to take up something more expensive. Had something similar elsewhere where a transaction wouldn’t go through, only to be told later that in the ‘small print’ it states that what the offer advertised would not be possible.

Probably best to go with a reputable company as given the state of the customer service it looks like we both might have dodged a bullet.

Hi @Alondonboy,

Sorry to hear you feel this way, I can understand how frustrating it must be if your application didn’t go through, especially if you’ve always had good credit elsewhere.

Just to reassure you, iD Mobile is a legitimate UK network and part of a major UK retailer group. We don’t offer or change deals after application, the offers shown are the same ones assessed during the application process.

When you apply for a pay monthly contract, a credit check is carried out by an external credit reference agency (such as Equifax, Experian or TransUnion). This is a standard industry process used by all UK mobile networks, not just iD Mobile. The decision is based on a range of factors in your credit file at the time of application, not just past payment history.

Sometimes applications can be declined due to things like:

  • Recent changes on your credit file
  • Existing credit commitments
  • Electoral register or address history issues
  • Internal affordability assessments by the credit agency

iD Mobile itself doesn’t manually override these decisions.

If you feel the decision is incorrect, you can absolutely contact Equifax directly to request a review or correction of your credit file, as they hold the data used in the decision-making process.
