Absolute onslaught of Spam SMS recently

In the last week I have been gradually getting more and more spam sms text message where I am added to a “group”.

I’m up to 20+ per day now and it’s driving me mad!

I can only seem to report them as spam and can’t find any setting in the Messages app (Google's one built into my Honor Magic 7 Pro) to stop me being added to groups without my permission.

Does anyone have any idea how I can block these please? They’re always different numbers.

Is anyone seeing a huge rise in them recently too?

Cheers!

Hey there @Casualbob, we’re sorry to hear that.

Unfortunately, all we can advise our end would be to block and ignore them when possible. We apologise if they’re constant and understand they would be an annoyance.

Thanks,

Tyler

Did you ever find a better solution? I'm getting loads at the moment and it's a pain.

Hi @Casualbob  @Elizabeth7893

If you have a Google account you can try the following:-

To Prevent Future Additions (Google Groups Settings)

  1. Go to Google Groups: Sign in to your Google account on a computer at groups.google.com.
  2. Open Settings: Click the Settings cog (top right) and select Global settings.
  3. Adjust Permissions: Uncheck the box for "Add me to their groups" and click Save.
  4. What this does: This stops managers from directly adding you; they'll need to send an invitation instead (if you have "Invite me to their groups" on).

For Current Spam Group Texts (SMS/MMS)

  1. Don't Interact: Do not reply, even to say "remove me," as this validates your number.
  2. Leave & Report (Google Messages):
    • Open the group chat in Google Messages.
    • Tap the three dots (menu) and select "Details" or "Group details".
    • Find the option to "Leave conversation" and/or "Block & report spam".
  3. Mute/Block: You can also mute the conversation or block the entire thread if leaving isn't available.

Hope this helps! Good Luck x
