Question

can't send text (sms) messages after number being ported

I recently got a new iphone. My number was ported yesterday (over 24 hours ago)

I can make calls and receive them on my old number as expected.

I am unable to send text messages, it just immediately comes up with ‘Not delivered’. I am also sending them to a number which should be sent as imessage, but it doesn’t even try.

I have updated my number in settings, and restarted and switched imessages off and on.

How can I send texts?

Hi @Harriets1070,

I'm really sorry to hear you're experiencing issues with your mobile number. Please try the steps below, depending on the type of phone you have:

For Android:

  • Open Settings
  • Tap General Management
  • Tap Reset
  • Select Reset network settings

For iPhone:

  • Go to Settings
  • Tap Phone
  • Tap My Number
  • Delete the old number
  • Enter the new number
  • Tap Save

Then follow these steps to refresh iMessage:

  1. Go to Settings
  2. Tap Messages
  3. Turn iMessage OFF
  4. Go to Settings > General
  5. Tap Reset
  6. Choose Reset Network Settings
  7. Once your iPhone restarts, go back to Settings
  8. Tap Messages
  9. Turn iMessage ON again

Your iPhone should now recognise the new SIM and verify your number.

Hi @Stephen McGurk,

I am so sorry to hear that you are facing issues with your normal text messages. Try these steps.

  1. Go to Settings → Messages
    - Turn iMessage OFF, wait 30 seconds, then turn it back ON
    - Make sure Send as SMS is ON
  2. Turn Airplane Mode ON for 30 seconds, then OFF
  3. Restart your phone
  4. If it still doesn’t work:
    - Take out your SIM card and put it back in
    - If possible, test your SIM in another phone
  5. Last step: please contact your carrier and ask them to check or refresh your SMS service, since you can receive texts but not send them

Please let me know if it still doesn’t work.

Regards,
