Hi

I want to use voicemail but I cant set it up without recording my name and message. Is there a way round this?

I tried to record my first name as the message but the system wont recognise it.

Hi @Morpheus,

Thanks for getting in touch.

Unfortunately, voicemail setup does require a greeting to be recorded before it can be activated fully.

If the system isn't recognising your first name on its own, try recording a slightly longer greeting instead, such as:

"Hello, please leave a message after the tone."

Keep the message clear and speak at a normal pace. Once the greeting has been accepted, voicemail should be set up and ready to use.

If you're still having trouble getting the greeting accepted, please contact our Live Chat team for further assistance: https://www.idmobile.co.uk/live-chat

Hi Gemma,

Thank you for your response.

I'm still a little confused by this requirement. As far as I'm aware, most mobile operators allow voicemail to be used without recording a personalised greeting, often by using a default system message instead.

Could you please explain why recording a personalised greeting is now an absolute requirement on iD Mobile?

Surely there must be a way to activate voicemail without a personalised message, even if that means using a standard default greeting provided by the network.

I'd appreciate it if you could clarify whether this is a technical limitation or simply a policy decision, as I would prefer not to record a personal greeting.

Kind regards,

Hi @Morpheus,

Thanks for your reply.

The voicemail system does require a greeting to be recorded before setup can be completed. However, this doesn't need to be a personalised message containing your name or any specific wording.

If you'd prefer not to record a personal greeting, you can simply record a short sound, a brief word, or any other audio that meets the minimum recording requirement. Once saved, voicemail should activate as normal.

Unfortunately, there isn't currently an option to bypass the recording stage entirely and use a default network greeting instead.

Regards,

The problem is that the system is not accepting a short sound, a brief word, or any other audio.

Hi @Morpheus,

Thanks for coming back to us.

If the system isn't accepting a short sound, brief word, or other recording, it may be that the voicemail platform requires a longer greeting before it will allow the setup process to be completed.

We'd recommend trying a slightly longer recording, such as a simple sentence, and then saving it. Once the voicemail setup has been completed successfully, you can check whether there are any options available to amend the greeting afterwards.

If the system still won't accept any recording, please contact our Live Chat team so they can investigate whether there is an issue with the voicemail setup on your line: https://www.idmobile.co.uk/live-chat
