E-Sim - activate now or wait til my existing number is ported over?

I have received my email with my new e-sim.  My number that I am porting over doesn’t happen until 14/04.

Do I wait until the activation date for  my old number coming over of 14/04 before I download the e-Sim?

Or do I download the e-sim now?  Concerned this will allocate me a new number before my old number is ported over.  Don’t want to lose access to my current contract and allowances with EE until my number comes over to ID Mobile.

Hi @Mackie65 ,

Yes,  you’ve got it.

That iD Mobile number in your welcome email is just a temporary number, so you can safely ignore it for now.

What you should do:
• Don’t activate the eSIM yet
• Wait until 14/04 (your port date)

On 14/04:
• Your EE SIM will stop working
• Then you should scan/activate the eSIM QR code
• Your EE number will automatically transfer onto the eSIM during the port process

So you won’t lose your current number or need to set anything up early,  it will all switch over on the day.

If anything doesn’t work on the 14th, just reach out and we’ll help get it sorted quickly

Hi @Mackie65 ,

I’m really sorry for the confusion. I completely understand why you’d want to be careful here and make sure you don’t lose access to your current number or allowances.

In your case, because your number port is scheduled for 14/04, you should not complete the eSIM activation just yet.

Here’s the correct process:

• You can download/scan the eSIM QR code before the port date if needed, but
• You should wait to fully activate/complete setup until the port date (14/04), when your number is due to move over

This is because:
• Activating the eSIM too early may temporarily give you a new iD Mobile number first
• Your existing number from EE will only transfer across on the scheduled port date
• The port process will automatically link your number to the eSIM once it completes

Best advice:
Wait until 14/04 before completing activation to avoid any disruption or confusion with numbering.

On the day of the port:
• Your EE SIM will stop working
• Your iD eSIM will then update to show your ported number automatically

I got the welcome email and it contained an ID mobile number. So I guess I ignore this for now….? And on 14/04 I download the new eSIM using the QR code once my EE sim stops working….?
