Hi @Hedges ,
I’m really sorry for any confusion. I can understand why this would be a bit unclear when you’ve just joined.
To clarify:
• Standard text messages (SMS/MMS): Emojis are treated as special characters, and in some cases they can change a text into an MMS, which may be charged depending on your plan.
• RCS (Rich Communication Services / “chat messages”): Yes — emojis are free to use here, as these messages are sent over data rather than being classed as MMS. So what you were told is correct.
• Emails: Emojis are completely free in emails as they are just part of the email content and not chargeable messages.
If you want to avoid any charges:
• Use RCS/Chat features in your Messages app (if your phone supports it and it’s enabled)
• Or use apps like WhatsApp/iMessage where messages are sent over data/Wi-Fi
Quick troubleshooting tip (if RCS isn’t working):
• Make sure mobile data or Wi-Fi is switched on
• Check that “Chat features” or “RCS messages” are enabled in your messaging settings
• Restart your phone if it doesn’t activate straight away
