Hot spot turns off after 3 days, does anyone know why?

Best answer by Tom

Hi @Vipannayyar

There wouldn’t be anything on our side that would turn it off, if you’re running it off data it’s possible there’s a small disconnection on the device that then stops the hotspot.

Hi @Vipannayyar  are you using your own device as a hot spot? What handset are you using please? Are you on an unlimited data plan?

Hi @Vipannayyar

Okay, have you checked to see if you’ve ran out of data and it switches off automatically?

When you say it switches off, does it switch off and you can just turn it back on or does it lock?

Hi, my ring camera loses connection to the hotspot.. oddly enough it lasts 3 days exactly . Is there a setting within ID where it turns the Hospot off?

No issues with Data storage.

When I use hotspot for my child’s tablet when I’m driving , it cuts off after a period of time and I have to turn my phone on and off for it to work again?

Hi @Martyderry and @grover,

I am so sorry to hear you’re having trouble with your hotspot.

A few things you can try that often help resolve this:

  • Make sure Mobile Data and Personal Hotspot/Tethering are both switched on
  • Check that Data Roaming is enabled (if you’re outside the UK)
  • Try turning the hotspot off, waiting a minute, then switching it back on
  • Forget the hotspot network on your child’s tablet and reconnect from scratch
  • Check if any data saver / battery saver settings are turned on, as these can interrupt hotspot connections
  • Make sure your phone’s software is fully up to date

Since you mentioned it cuts off after a while, it could also be your phone automatically disabling the hotspot to save battery or data, so keeping the screen active or adjusting battery settings may help.

If you’ve tried all of the above and it’s still not working properly, let us know and we can look into it further with you.

Regards,
