Hi @Poppy9,

Thanks for your question, I understand why seeing a cap point on a monthly unlimited calls and texts plan can seem confusing.

Even though your plan includes unlimited standard UK calls and texts, there are certain types of usage that are not covered by that allowance and are classed as out‑of‑plan services. These can still incur charges, and those charges count toward your bill cap, which may be why you’ve reached a cap point.

Here’s how it works based on the information on iD Mobile’s website and support pages:

What “Unlimited” Covers:

Your plan’s unlimited calls and texts cover:

  • Standard UK calls to mobile and landline numbers
  • Standard UK texts to mobile numbers

What Is Not Included (Out‑of‑Plan Usage):

Some services are excluded from your unlimited allowance and will be charged separately:

  • International calls and texts (e.g., to numbers outside the UK), even if you’re in the UK.
  • Text and call shortcodes or premium services (e.g., competition lines, charity voting, certain service numbers).
  • Non‑standard or premium rate numbers (e.g., certain 084, 087, 09 numbers) — these often incur an Access Charge plus a Service Charge and are not part of your unlimited allowance.
  • MMS (picture messages or multimedia messages), these are not the same as standard SMS and are charged separately.

When you use any of these out‑of‑plan services, they are billed at specific rates and will contribute to your overall usage outside the unlimited allowances. The charges can show under Out‑of‑Plan Charges on your bill.

Why You Hit a Cap Point:

If you’ve used any of the above out‑of‑plan services, the costs from those services will count toward your bill total and can cause you to hit your cap point even if your core minutes and texts appear unlimited.

You can always check exact out‑of‑plan rates and which services are chargeable here: https://www.idmobile.co.uk/help-and-advice/call-charges (call/SMS/MMS out‑of‑plan info).

You can check and change your bill cap by following the below steps:

To change your bill cap with iD Mobile, log in to the iD Mobile app or your online account, navigate to the Bills section, and select Manage bill cap. You can use a slider or type in a new amount, which can be set between £0 and a maximum of £75.00, depending on your account type.
