iPhone 15 Pro Max - constant white flashing at bottom half of screen, see picture - phone is unusable.  Taken to apple store and have quoted 389 to repair, bought phone under contract with ID in June 2024.  Have copy of service record from Apple Store and quote to repair.  Is this covered by ID contract.

Is this covered by my ID Contract, as phone is unusable and yet I am still paying 48 pounds per month.

Thanks

David

iPhones come with a one-year warranty. Since your phone is outside this period repairs would be chargeable. Take it to your local Currys for repair.

Hi @Davidowen100

Thank you for getting in touch with us, I’m really sorry to hear about the issue with your iPhone, especially as it’s left the phone unusable.

To clarify how this works with iD Mobile:

iD Mobile provides the airtime contract, while the handset itself is covered by the manufacturer’s warranty.

Apple’s standard warranty is 12 months from purchase. As the phone was bought in June 2024, this warranty has now expired, which is why Apple have quoted £389 for the repair.

Unfortunately, this means the repair would not be covered automatically under your iD contract, unless you have phone insurance.

if a fault is believed to be an inherent manufacturing issue, you can raise this with the retailer (iD Mobile). As the phone is over 6 months old, supporting evidence (such as Apple’s service report) is required which you already have. Please takee the phone to your nearest curry's store to have it checked.

Thank you,

Zandile

Hi @Davidowen100

If you do an internet search you will find a lot of posts describing the same problem, also with other Apple phones and other Apple devices.
I did a quick search of ‘is the half white screen fault well known with a iPhone 15 Pro Max’ and the AI response was this:-

Yes, reports of screen issues, including a "half white screen" or "white screen of death" (WSOD), have emerged regarding the iPhone 15 Pro Max, although they appear to be isolated hardware failures rather than a widespread, universal recall-level fault. Reports indicate that some users have experienced a horizontal band of white light, typically at the bottom of the display, often appearing without any physical damage or drops.
Key Details About the Issue:
  • Symptoms: Users have reported a "constant white flashing" or a bright white band covering half the screen, rendering the device unusable.
  • Cause: It is often identified as a hardware failure (likely the display panel or internal cable) rather than just a software bug. Some users reported this happening after a recent iOS update or during normal usage.
  • Timing: Reports surfaced throughout 2024 and 2025.
  • Repair: These issues are often treated by Apple as hardware repairs, costing in the region of £389 (or equivalent in other currencies) if the device is out of warranty.
Potential Fixes to Try:
Before concluding it is a permanent hardware failure, some users have tried the following to fix a white screen:
  1. Force Restart: Press and release Volume Up, then Volume Down, then hold the side button until the Apple logo appears.
  2. Turn Off Always On Display: Some reports suggest turning off the "Always On Display" in settings.
  3. Check for Water/Moisture: Some cases might be related to moisture entering the device.
If these do not work, it is likely a hardware defect that requires professional service.

Or do an internet search e.g. How to fix half white screen iPhone 15 Pro Max

Good Luck x

Many thanks for the responses, as suggest took into Currys for them to look at, they said they could do nothing for it and did not even take a close look. Very disappointed to say the least.  Was the Cardiff Store!

Hi @Davidowen100 ,

Thank you for your update, and I’m sorry to hear about your experience at Currys Cardiff. I understand how frustrating this must be.

The white flashing screen on the iPhone 15 Pro Max is a hardware fault. Since your phone is outside the standard one-year warranty, this repair is not covered by your ID Mobile contract.

I recommend contacting Apple Support directly to book a Genius Bar appointment or mail-in repair. If you have AppleCare+, this may reduce costs. Please keep your service report and repair quote from Currys for reference.

We’re happy to advise further on contacting Apple if needed.
