Is ID Mobile already using VodafoneThree network in Edinburgh?

I’m thinking to switch to ID Mobiles but the coverage on the ID Mobile based on 3Three network is quite bad in my area. In theory after the merger of Vodafone and Three in case of Three poor network it should be switched to Vodafone but the question is if that function is already enabled in Edinburgh, specially south side? thanks in advance for any info.

Hi @Prospectus

This is the information I have found with regards to your question:-

To check Vodafone (and Three) coverage after the merger, use the official Vodafone or Three coverage maps by entering your postcode for an automatic view of combined 4G/5G signals, or use independent tools like Ofcom's checker (ofcom.org.uk/mobile-coverage-checker) or Signalchecker.co.uk for comparisons, remembering the automatic network sharing (MOCN) is rolling out gradually and your phone still shows your original network (Vodafone or Three).

Using Official Sources
  1. Vodafone: Visit the Vodafone UK coverage map (vodafone.co.uk/network/coverage-map) and enter your postcode to see the combined network strength.
  2. Three: Go to the Three coverage checker (three.co.uk/support/network-and-coverage/coverage) and input your postcode for their map.
Using Independent Checkers
  1. Ofcom's Checker: Use Ofcom's Mobile Coverage Checker (ofcom.org.uk/mobile-coverage-checker) to see indoor/outdoor 4G/5G availability and performance for all networks.
  2. Signalchecker.co.uk: This site provides a simple way to check 3G, 4G, and 5G signals for all four major UK networks (Vodafone, Three, EE, O2) at one location by entering your postcode.
What to Expect
  • Automatic Sharing: Vodafone and Three customers automatically use each other's networks where available through a technology called MOCN (Multi-Operator Core Network).
  • No Change in Display: Your phone will still show as "Vodafone" or "Three," but you'll notice better coverage or speed.
  • Gradual Rollout: The full benefits are still being rolled out across the UK, so coverage improves over time

Hope this helps x

Hi @Prospectus ,

Vodafone,Three network sharing is being rolled out gradually, so improved coverage may be available in some areas, but it’s not fully active everywhere yet. Coverage in parts of Edinburgh, including the south side, can’t be guaranteed at this stage. Your phone will still show “Three” even when shared coverage is used. We recommend checking Vodafone, Three, or Ofcom coverage maps with your postcode for the most accurate, up-to-date information.

The signal might not improve post-merger as Vodafone3 could choose to keep the Three mast while decommissioning the Vodafone mast.
