not receiving code on my id number

My sim came a we ago but I was on holiday so am just trying to activate it now. To start the activation I need to get into my account online or the app but to do this it keeps trying to send my temporary id number a one time code I need to insert. This temporary number isn’t working, I am not receiving any codes and I had zero service. What’s the problem ?
