rcs issues after porting - honor 9

I had my number ported across to the id SIM. RCS messaging still shows as the original id number. I've tried uninstalling the app, clearing cache, unregistering the original id number from my Google account, pretty much everything that I've seen suggested online, to no avail. When I click to verify my number and add by ported number, it comes up saying RCS messaging isn't available on this device even though it does work on the original id mobile number.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Hi @Rodger Quinn

Sorry to hear this, I’d recommend the following;

1) Open Messages, go to Settings (top right, Message Settings), open "Chat Features" or "RCS Chats", verify if this is the correct number or not.

2) If it shows the incorrect one, then head to: https://messages.google.com/disable-chat and you should be able to unregister the number. Once done, turn off the Chat Features/RCS and the phone. Wait a few minutes and turn the device back on and re-enable Chat Features/RCS it should let you re-register/update to the correct number.

Alternatively, you can turn Chat Features/RCS off and test SMS after this.

Maybe just turn the RCS messaging feature OFF, and use SMS text messages instead, @Rodger Quinn

Unfortunately, when a registered device changes its mobile number, the Google servers don’t always immediately recognise this event.

Leaving RCS turned OFF for at least weeks could fix the issue.

Final thought, have you checked the mobile numbers and devices, which Google have stored in your online Google Account? Google keeps lots of information about an account holder.
