SMS messages fail to send and receive

Calls work fine and coverage shows it’s excellent where I live, however text messages fail to send and  when waiting to receive them they come through hours later or not at all. There is one spot in the village where they always come through - I travel a lot with work and have the same problem wherever I am. 
looking at my settings, the phone number is the original one supplied by ID, but this was ported to my old one shortly after I received the phone. I can’t see any evidence that my old number is attached, could this be the problem?

any help gratefully received, it’s a nightmare that most services use text message notification to verify accounts!

Postcode is LN1 2PE, phone is iPhone 16,

I haven’t deleted my comments, they do not seem to be posting, I’ve tried twice now - iPhone 16 and postcode is LN1 2PE
