Question

Spam calls

Hi,

I need help with an ongoing matter I have got lately. For the past 2 months I keep having random spam calls from different phone numbers, which goes throughout the day. I received phone calls about 20-25 times a day if not more, but if I answer there's no one speaking at the other end, indicating clearly that it is a robot call. I have started to believe that my phone number was sold into the black market or something, because this is getting out of hand. I can confirm that I have not input my details into any of the online website or so on.

I find it very disturbing, but also a bit harrasing at the same time.

It would be much appreciated your help with this matter

Hi @AncaB,

Thank you for your email.

We are very sorry to hear about the experience you’ve been having, and we completely understand how distressing and frustrating it must be to receive 20–25 unwanted calls a day. We appreciate you taking the time to report this, and we want to reassure you that we are here to help.

It is completely understandable that you find this volume of calls disturbing and concerning. What you are experiencing is commonly known as robocalling or silent calls, where automated systems dial numbers to check if they are active. These numbers are often then targeted for further spam or scam attempts.

Please be assured that this does not mean your number has been “sold” by your network provider. Unfortunately, these types of calls can happen even when your details have not been shared on websites or online services.

To help reduce and manage these calls, we recommend the following:

Enable call blocking or spam protection features on your device (if available)
Download a trusted call-blocking app (such as Truecaller or similar)
Block and report the numbers when they call
Avoid engaging with or answering unknown numbers where possible, as this can confirm your number is active

We completely understand how upsetting this situation is, and we want to reassure you that you are not alone in experiencing this type of issue.

Thanks.

I have done all the steps you've mentioned them above. I literally spend time after every call , reporting and blocking the numbers, but it reoccurs after 10 mins. I've been doing this for the past 2 months and it's getting to much now. I have downloaded the app Truecaller but still no improvement. I've already got a phone that's built in with a spam call detection.

Thanks

Thank you for your response, and we do once again apologise for any inconvenience caused.

As you’ve mentioned that this issue has been ongoing for around 2 months and you have already completed the troubleshooting steps without any improvement, we would like to look at alternative options to help resolve this for you.

One option available is a number change, which can sometimes help in situations where persistent issues continue despite network and device checks. This change is free of charge if you have a valid crime reference number. If you don't have crime reference number, you will be charged £25.00 which will be added to your bill.

Thanks.
