Unable to make voice calls in Madeira

Why can't I make or receive voice calls using ID mobile in Madeira?

I have thoroughly checked every setting both on my android phone and ID app. All are correct. ID is blocking my attempted calls and a popup message says" Network is not available. Connect to a wireless network to make a call".

Absolute rubbish because WI-FI calling is toggled ON and still won't work. Definitely ID is blocking and not compatible with the local network MEO in Funchal.

My wife has an iPhone and also on ID. She has exactly the same problem. We're thinking of ditching ID. We had no problems earlier this year in three different countries. What is going on ???

    Hi @Monkeyboy,

I’m sorry to hear that both you and your wife are unable to make or receive calls while in Madeira.

Could you please confirm whether you’re trying to call a UK number or a local Madeira/Portuguese number?

If you’re calling the UK, standard UK mobile and landline numbers are included within your allowances while roaming in Madeira. However, numbers such as 0800, premium-rate and certain non-geographic numbers are blocked while roaming.

If you’re trying to call a local number in Madeira, please also check that your Bill Cap is set high enough to allow any chargeable calls.

As both devices are experiencing the same issue, I’d also recommend manually connecting to one of our supported roaming partners in Madeira:

    • MEO
    • NOS
    • Vodafone

You can do this by switching Automatic Network Selection off, choosing one of the above networks and then trying the call again.

If you let us know whether it’s UK or local numbers you’re trying to call, we can advise further.

    Regards,
