Wifi calling

Hi. I have a Samsung S22 Ultra and have recently moved over from O2. Since moving I can't find WiFi calling in my settings. It worked fine on O2. Nothing else has been changed only the sim card. Is my phone on your list of devices that should be able to use WiFi calling, and if so can you suggest a fix?

Thanks

Hi @PappaG

Could you try this method to see if the Wi-Fi Calling option is visible?

Alternative Way (via Phone App):

Open the Phone app
Tap the three dots (menu)
Select Settings
Tap Supplementary services
Check for Wi-Fi Calling and turn it on if available

Hi @PappaG

Thank you for getting in touch. I’m sorry to hear that you’re having trouble accessing WiFi Calling since moving over from O2 I understand how important this feature can be.

Your Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra is compatible with iD Mobile WiFi Calling, so this should be available on your device. Since the only change was your SIM card, it’s likely a settings or network issue. Please try the following steps:

  1. Check your network settings
Go to Settings > Connections > Mobile Networks > Network Mode and ensure it’s set to automatic.
  2. Enable WiFi Calling
Go to Settings > Connections > WiFi Calling and toggle it on.
If the option isn’t visible, try searching for “WiFi Calling” in the Settings search bar.
  3. Restart your phone
A simple restart can often refresh the network and allow the feature to appear.
  4. Ensure your software is up to date
Go to Settings > Software Update and install any available updates.
  5. Check your SIM card
Make sure the iD Mobile SIM is correctly inserted. If possible, try removing and reinserting it.

If WiFi Calling still doesn’t appear after these steps, please do contacted inform us back.

Hi, I have tried all of the above with no luck. The WiFi calling option isn't even present. ??

I have a similar issue, on a different Android device (Google Pixel 3a). It won’t show 4G Calling option either. If I borrow an EE SIM instead, the settings appear, but with the iD Mobile SIM the options iD’s FAQ tells users to enable simply don’t appear in the Settings menu at all.

Hi @PappaG

Yes, your phone make/model is on the approved list with iD Mobile:-

This is from an internet search:-

WiFi calling disappearing on a Samsung phone after changing networks is a common issue, primarily because hen you change networks, your phone needs to update its carrier settings to match the new provider. Here is why it likely disappeared and how to fix it:

Top Reasons Why It Disappeared
  • Missing Provisioning on New Network: The new network provider may not have Wi-Fi calling activated on your account by default.
  • Firmware Incompatibility: If your Samsung phone was originally bought from O2, it may have "O2 Firmware." If you switched to a non-O2 network (e.g., Vodafone, Three), the firmware may refuse to show the Wi-Fi calling toggle.
  • SIM Settings Mismatch: The phone still holds configuration data from your old O2 SIM card.
How to Restore Wi-Fi Calling
Try these steps, which are known to fix this issue on Samsung/O2 devices:
  1. Contact New Network Provider: Reach out to your new network and explicitly ask them to enable Wi-Fi calling (or VoLTE/4G calling) on your account. It is often not activated automatically.
  2. Restart with SIM Removed:
    • Turn off the phone.
    • Remove the new SIM card.
    • Turn the phone on without the SIM.
    • Once fully booted, insert the SIM card again. This forces the phone to update its network settings.
  3. Perform a Software/Carrier Update: Go to Settings > Software Update > Download and Install to ensure your phone has the latest carrier configurations.
  4. Reset Network Settings: Go to Settings > General Management > Reset > Reset Network Settings (Note: This will delete saved Wi-Fi passwords).
  5. Check for Hidden Toggle: Sometimes the setting moves. Look for it in the Phone App > 3 dots (Menu) > Settings, or swipe down the Quick Access menu from the top of the screen.

Did you purchase the phone from O2?
If so, then the firmware on your device maybe tied to that network and will not work on other ones e.g. THREE (iD Mobile)

To check, go into settings/ About Phone/ Software Information and look for:

A three-letter identifier indicating the region and carrier. A common O2 UK firmware signature in the CSC field looks like this:

  • O2U/O2U/O2U
  • TEF or OTF
If your phone is unbranded (not from O2), the code will often appear as BTU (for UK open market) or XEU

I had his problem…….the firmware on my SG J4+ was:- SAOMC_SM-J415FN_OVF_VOD_PP_0015 / 40009a7d / VOD/VOD/VOD which showed that the firmware on my phone was controlled by Vodafone (VOD) which was the network the device was purchased from.  (This information can be found in the phone under 'Software Information').
Unless I was 'connected to/used' the Vodafone network with this phone I wasn't able to get the firmware updates to enable all the capabilities available.
The ONLY way to 'free' a device to enable firmware updates from the manufacturer (rather than a network), so that it can be used with ALL networks, was to 'FLASH' the phone to an Unbranded firmware.
After Flashing my phone this is the software that is now on my device:-
SAOMC_SM-J415FN_OXM_XEU_PP_0013 / 40009a7d / XEU/XEU/VOD (XEU is 'unbranded').

I now have ALL the capabilities that this phone has with the capacity to use VoLTE, WiFi Calling etc.

These are the codes to which your phone network is locked in to:-

BTU (unbranded)
EVR (EE)
BTC, CPW (Carphone Warehouse)
H3G, O2I, O2U (O2)
ORA (Orange)
TMU (T-Mobile)
TSC, VIR, VOD (Vodafone)
XEU (EE & Three)

Do an internet search e.g. How to flash my (insert make/model of device) to unbranded software and this will guide you on ‘How to’. Don’t panic, as it appears difficult to do BUT it really is quite easy once you have all the information necessary. I managed it and I’m a numpty when it comes to this kind of thing. And, a plus is that you don’t have to fork out £ for a new phone that may have the same problem, as people don’t understand this is a factor when devices are sold as ‘unlocked’ when in fact this usually means unlocked to a network SIM rather than the firmware on the device.
If you go down the 'Flashing' route... PLEASE do your research! It is easy to do once you know how but there are a few things you need to know to do it safely!
SO, the conclusion of this is that this isn't just a 'network provider' problem i.e. unsupported phone, but could most likely be a firmware problem/restriction.
The best way I can describe this is:-
You purchase a car from a dealer and means you can only buy your fuel from their approved supplier for it to run (as their nozzle is the only one that fits to fill the tank)  BUT you then change the opening to something that enables you to use any and all fuel stations, as any nozzle will fit.

Hope this helps x

Thanks Michael,

I couldn't find it in my id mobile app. However I typed supplementary settings into my phone and found it under samsung call settings. So thank you for that.

Many thanks.
