Another credit check for an additional plan?

Hi,

I recently (2-3 days ago) took out a new sim-only plan. I've been quite impressed by iD so far. It was quick, easy, no issues. I was so impressed I thought I’d start bringing the rest of my family over...

I first started to see if I can add additional plans via my account. Didn't seem like the process allowed it. From what I could see I’d need to setup new plan and link it to the account. Cool, bit of a faff having to reenter the same details again, but no problem.

I stated the process and then got to the point of purchase, I was then met with the info about a credit check. Given I’ve already successfully pass one, direct debit all set up, this seems a bit excessive. I decided to hit the live chat to find out if it's a hard or soft credit check. I know multiple hard checks, even if successful, can really impact your score. For the sake of a £7 sim with the same company, another hard check seemed crazy.

The agent provided me with conflicting information, initially they said it would be another hard check, avoid for a few months, I queried as it seems odd for a business to tell you to not buy their product. They said it would be a soft check, I queried again - which is it? How do they guarantee its a soft check when you're setting up an unlinked plan?

So long story short, I’m not convinced or confident that taking out another plan is a good idea now and starting to wonder if my initial switch was a mistake.

Does anyone have experience doing the same? Any success? I fully understand the need for a credit check, but another one a few days after seems backwards, almost like the iD doesn’t want the business, hopefully I’m wrong!

iD Mobile won’t let you purchase a second or third plan until you’ve accumulated 90 days’ worth of payment history on your current plan.

Thanks @WelshPaul . The agent didn't mention this at all. Very frustrating.

If the account has credit on it does that impact the calculation? E.g. if my first bill and part of second were covered by credit would I need 3 full months or just 3 ‘paid’ bills?

As mentioned, it’s a 90-day history requirement. You need three billing months and three successful direct debit payments. Manual payments could be problematic. Overpayments and debt go against you too.

Hi @msimmo,

Thanks for your response.

You would need to have paid 3 months bills, I am so sorry to let you know that the credit on the account would not count towards this.
