Billing start date?

Why is my billing start date several days before I received my SIM, as prior to that I couldn't possibly use the service? Also billing isn't for a full calendar month? That can't be legal or good practise. Agreed swap over date was 10th, SIM arrived on 7th, bill says it starts on 4th June and finishes on the 2nd July. Bill says monthly, not a lunar month or every 30 days, monthly.

Was going to swap over my other household phones but if this is the sort of underhand tactics iD are going to use I will find somewhere else.
