Can you use your UK minutes when phoning UK from Europe (assuming it is a roaming country)

Yes, you can call the UK as normal while you’re abroad – you don’t have to use FaceTime or WhatsApp (though you still can if you prefer).

If you’re in one of iD’s Roam Free destinations, calls back to the UK come out of your usual allowance, just like they would at home. So as long as you’ve got minutes left, you won’t be charged anything extra.

The main times you would see charges are if you:

• run out of your inclusive minutes
• are in a country that isn’t included in Roam Free
• or call non-standard/premium numbers

If your priority is avoiding any extra costs, a couple of simple things help:

• double-check your destination is in the Roam Free list
• keep an eye on your allowance while you’re away
• set a bill cap if you want that extra peace of mind

So overall, no need to rely on apps unless you want to. You can just pick up the phone and call the UK as usual.
