challenge roaming bill

I went to montenegro on 14/05/2026 and bought a data pass (10gb for 5 days) for £20. I bought it basically as soon as I was able to after landing at on 14/05 at 10am. I believed i was on the airport WiFi but it was very spotty.

I am shocked to see that my bill this month was nearly £100 rather than £47 (£27+ £20 data package).

I have been charged £33 for just 250mb of data usage on 14/05! This seems absolutely ridiculous. Unfortunately, it can only have been the data used to buy the add on via your app. The data has only been used to pay you for my extra data rather than getting an e-Sim, which was my original plan.

Ive also been charged £16.80 for two phone calls adding up to about 6 minutes!

Ive been very satisfied with iD but this is a rip off and I am quite disappointed as it builds up so quickly people are likely to get charged just from receiving notifications before they are aware that countries are not in the free zone. I'll have to let other people know this is a serious issue.

Hi @MacBlundell,

Thank you for taking the time to explain what happened, and we're sorry to hear about the shock of receiving a higher-than-expected bill.

We do completely understand your frustration, especially as it sounds like the usage occurred before you were able to successfully purchase the roaming add-on.

Having reviewed what you've described, it appears that the charges were incurred before the add-on became active. Unfortunately, although this may have been unintentional, the services were still used on the network and therefore charged at the standard roaming rates for Montenegro.

For Montenegro, data usage outside of an active roaming add-on is charged at £1.50 per MB, which can unfortunately accumulate very quickly. Similarly, calls made or received outside of an inclusive allowance or applicable add-on are charged at the relevant roaming rates.

We appreciate that this isn't the outcome you were hoping for, but the charges do appear to reflect usage that occurred before the add-on was in place. The applicable roaming rates are available on our website so customers can check costs before travelling.

We do genuinely value your feedback, particularly around how quickly these charges can build up before a customer has had the opportunity to purchase an add-on, and we'll ensure your comments are noted.

Regards,
