I have paid my bill but still says unpaid and I can't set up the direct debit

I've tried multiple times to set up a direct debit but the money is never taken so I then have arrears. Usually I pay these off and it's cleared. For some reason this hasn't cleared this time and still says I owe money even though it's left my bank account. Please can this be sorted so I can attempt to set up a direct debit (again). Thank you
