Monthly bill is showing as well overdue

My bill is due on the 16th of every month. For some reason it is showing that my bill is outstanding even though it's only the 8th. I want to set up a direct debit so I can upgrade to a handset and SIM card deal but it will not allow me until a pay said outstanding balance. Please advice me how to.resolve this problem
