roaming charge

I have been billed £45 on mine and my daughters phones within minutes of landing in montenegro, I had no time to buy the roaming add on when I landed as my phone wouldn't connect, how can i get this refunded as it seems very unfair that I couldn't add this straight away due to network issues. As soon as I got to my hotel with WiFi only then could I buy the addon.

Yes I could have, but the roaming literally starts and ends when you apply it so didn't order this at 4am when I had a lot of other things going on, im more than happy to pay a little charge but literally within minutes I sapped £45 each device, just a joke and not being able to buy the roaming until I got WiFi was a little naughty I thought.

Well we could argue that you should of done this transaction before leaving the UK. You know you'll be billed for roaming charges if you have not added the needed roaming package to your account.

    Hi @Crusck1,

We're really sorry to hear how this experience has made you feel, and we do understand your frustration.

Roaming charges are applied automatically as soon as your phone connects to a network abroad, even if it’s only for a short period before you’re able to purchase an add-on. In this case, the usage recorded at the point of landing would still be chargeable at standard roaming rates, even if it was unintentional or happened while you were trying to get set up.

We appreciate that it can feel unfair when this happens so quickly, especially when you weren’t able to access WiFi or purchase the add-on immediately on arrival. However, any data, calls or network activity used before an add-on is activated is still billed in line with our roaming charges.

To help prevent situations like this in future, we would strongly recommend setting your bill cap to £0.00 before travelling. This ensures that no chargeable usage can occur until you’re ready to purchase and activate your roaming add-on.

    To set your bill cap:

    • Log in to the iD Mobile app or your online account
    • Go to Bills
    • Select Manage Bill Cap
    • Set it to £0.00

We completely appreciate your feedback and will make sure it’s passed on.
