Question

Will it cost me anything to receive SMS messages abroad - within the EU?

I regularly receive 2fa messages via SMS to access various secure sites, and would like to know if I will be charged for receiving these messages when abroad, e.g. in France, Italy, Switzerland, Germany.  Thanks

Hi @onlytml,

Thanks for getting in touch.

You won't be charged for receiving SMS messages, including 2FA (two-factor authentication) texts, while you're abroad.

If you're travelling in France, Italy or Germany, these are included in our Roam Free destinations, so you'll be able to receive your 2FA messages as normal.

However, please note that Switzerland is not included in our Roam Free destinations. While receiving SMS messages is still free, any calls made or received, or texts sent to non-UK numbers, would be chargeable unless you have the appropriate roaming add-on or allowance.

To help avoid any unexpected charges, we'd also recommend setting your bill cap to £0.00 before you travel.

Regards,
