Samsung recently launched its new Galaxy S10 range, so we thought it was time we checked out the entry level Galaxy S10e. This is a smartphone with a lot going for it, and we’re not just talking about the low price tag…

The S10e looks and feels just as good as the S10

It might be the more affordable version of the Galaxy S10, but the S10e is certainly no budget phone. It’s got a nice big 5.8-inch screen with a crystal clear, Full HD+ resolution. The super-thin bezels make the most of phone’s surface area and the curved screen corners give the phone a super stylish and bang up to date feel.

The S10e doesn’t come with the curved screen like you get on most Samsung flagships, but we don’t think that’s necessarily a bad thing. A flatter screen can give you a more secure grip. So, if you’re not a fan of wrapping your beautifully designed phone in a big, bulky case, the S10e might just give you a bit more peace of mind.

Excellent build quality with an IP68 rating

There was a time when an affordable alternative to a Samsung flagship meant plastic, plastic and more plastic – not anymore. The S10e feels just as premium as the S10.

The S10e features an aluminium frame with a Gorilla Glass 5 back, just like the S10, and both phones have an IP68 dust and water proof rating.

Top notch clarity from the AMOLED display

The screen in the S10e uses the same tech you get in its bigger brother, the S10. It’s got a Dynamic AMOLED display with HDR10+, which means you get vibrant colours, excellent contrast ratio, and true blacks. Perfect for gaming or watching movies and TV shows.

Where the S10e screen differs from the S10 is when it comes to the pixel density. The S10 gives you 550 pixels per inch, whereas you still get a respectable 438 PPI with the S10e.

A dual-lens camera for super sharp photography

The S10e comes with a dual-lens main camera setup, rather than the triple lens arrangement you get on the S10. The lens that’s missing is the telephoto zoom lens.

What you get is a 12MP wide lens and a 16MP ultrawide lens with all the same tech powering them. So you’ll still get incredible looking shots, and the wide-angle lens is great when you want to capture more from your scene.

A side-mounted fingerprint scanner

It looks like Samsung is ditching the rear-mounted fingerprint scanner altogether, and we’re not exactly sad to see it go. The S10 comes with the latest in-screen scanner, but unfortunately, that’s a premium reserved only for Samsung’s flagship model.

The S10e has a side-mounted scanner built right into the power button. It’s easier to find than the scanners from earlier models and because it’s side-mounted, it’s perfect if you like to browse at your desk.

Enough processing power for any task

We were surprised to discover that the S10e comes with exactly the same Snapdragon 855 chipset and CPU as the pricier S10. The only difference is that you get 6GB of RAM rather than 8GB, but 6GB is still a lot for any phone. Everything is super snappy on the S10e and apps open in an instant, so when it comes to performance, it’s tough to see the difference.
