Hi,

Is it possible to request a replacement eSIM for a phone upgrade in advance (via Live Chat) - or when you request a replacement, is the existing eSIM disconnected?

Trying to minimise downtime and wondered if I could get the QR code ready early.

Thanks 😀

Hi @JPF

Thanks for getting in touch with us here on the community.

You will be able to order a replacement eSIM at any time as this is sent via email but please do not do anything with this until you have your new handset.

Once you have the handset, you can complete the activation using the QR code.

Thanks,

Nat

Hi there @JPF

Being as the QR code gets emailed to you I would have to guess and say yes you can.

What I don’t know is if there is a time limit for activating the new eSIM. But being as you have to deactivate the old eSIM before activating a new eSIM I can’t see a reason why this would not work.

If you didn’t know you must only download the eSIM to the device you want to use - in this case your new phone.

You might get clarification regarding the above via their live chat.

Or wait for clarification from a staff member on here.

Apparently the eSIM QR email is valid for only one hour, according to Live Chat, so don’t request too early...

Just to add to the one hour bit - which is good to know @JPF so thanks for posting that.

Many customers are finding out recently that ordering an eSIM cancels the physical SIM with immediate effect. I was under the impression the physical SIM only ‘died’ when you activated the eSIM.

...and another gotcha - you need your old phone with eSIM still active as they send you a text code as part of security 😫.

As I’d already traded in the old one, I was advised they can’t email a new eSIM, I’d have to go to Currys and pick up an physical one (or wait for post).  Lessons learned.

@Natalie W I am looking for the form or email to request an eSim but it is proving to be impossible to find.

Can you help?

Don’t think there’s a form. Live chat only, I believe.
