I moved from Three to ID mobile so it should not have been a huge change of speed. I was getting 20Mb/s on average which is poor but usable. Since moving to ID mobile, the best speed I got after a while was 10Mb/s but generally it is less than 1Mb/s when in use, this is midnight in Edinburgh EH8 9RR.
The same handset gets 50Mb/s with Vodaphone SIM, so it would not be this issue. Similarly, the ID mobile SIM on my work phone gets a similar speed.
Location is already in a better spot than if I am in the city centre, 99% of time I will not get any Internet despite full bars when on Princes Street, now this might be down to congestion, but 4am in a location which has perfect coverage and top floor, it makes no sense that location can be an issue either. I am aware that Three/ID mobile has the worst speed out of the 4 but it is reasonable to have just 1MB/s to be considered as good coverage?
This points to deliberate throttling with ID mobile/Three, I am a heavy user so I expect throttling from fair use, but this should not be the case 4am in the morning.
I have changed the SIM once already and had a small ‘honeymoon’ of 30MB/s, much less than advised but fairly used to mobile phone company overselling and make excuses with congestion even at 4am in the morning. ID mobile is relatively cheap so I put up with it but getting 1/50 of advertised speed is abysmal. Do I need to request need SIM every 2 months so I can stay on the honeymoon period?
