Grateful for any help suggestions or just a hand hold, I am going INSANE

Purchased above model from Amazon

Replaced with a new SIM

SIM works fine in old rugged phone (Ulefone)

Black view phone does not seem to pick up 4G signal

I now realise its not a supported phone by ID (Three) but neither is my old rugged phone (Ulefone)

I just don’t understand

LIke everyone else, I cannot be without a working phone.  I am a carer for my Father who is nearly 90 years old and I no longer have a landline / I live alone so have no access to phone

This is the worst phone upgrade ever and am being sent very mad

Posting in coverage and network but please let me know if this is not the best place for advice

Thanks for listening to my rant ! ;-)

PS - I spent three hours at my local branch of Currys and despite the change to a new SIM card and a call to customer services with the advice that it was not a supported phone, got absolutely nowhere

Tried re-starting phone and turning on and off also, various setting changes etc

(Currys instore colleague was excellent by the way, very kind and incredibly patient in the face of my odd little issue .  Full marks there to Javaughan in the fact of courage under intense adversity ! )

Hi there @Deirdre, sorry to hear that. As you’ve been advised, the phone isn’t supported on our network I’m afraid, so most features won’t work with our network. Find supported devices below:

Thanks,

Tyler

Hi Tyler

Thanks for your response.

I have followed some of the advice and guidance online in the Community for getting Android phones connected and have now got the phone connecting to my SIM and can make and receive calls

The action that seemed to work - bizarrely - was turning aeroplane mode on and then waiting a few minutes and turning it back off again

I hope that might be useful for anyone else experiencing a similar issue

After reading other people's recent experience there seems to be a number of folk who are experiencing problems with connecting to 4G on ID !

Although I can now get access to the phone, my text messages have now stopped, however

Any advice to get this reinstated please, Tyler?

Your help is greatly appreciated, it has been a very frustrating time 😔

Hi there @Deirdre, sorry to hear that. To confirm, your text messages aren’t working at all now?

Thanks,

Tyler

Hi @Deirdre

Unfortunately our support would be rather limited given the device being used is an unsupported one, that is very likely the cause of the issues.

I’d recommend trying a network settings reset, as well as manually connecting to iD Mobile instead of using automatic network selection.

Hi Tom - would a network settings reset wipe everything from my phone please ?

Hi there @Deirdre, a network reset would only remove things such as Wi-Fi passwords and saved bluetooth devices for example, all of which are easily addable again.

Thanks,

Tyler

Thanks for confirming, Tyler. I'll certainly give that a try.

The 4G phone connection is very patchy and can be very hit and miss, but receiving text messages are definitely now the worst problem

It's so strange, I can make and receive calls and sometimes texts, but not consistently - so the SIM card is connected and working ?

I really don't understand

I don't want to give the Black View phone up / or have to move from ID mobile

Very odd.  I joined iD today, popped in the new SIM on my BV9100, the phone is about 10 years old, and everything, so far, just works.

I’m an ancient IT geek and would be interested in why a communications protocol would fail on an Android phone.  I am aware that BV do lock down the operating system, but am sure than many phone manufacturers do the same.

Hi Sandy

Thank you so much for your reply

I'm as far from an IT geek as you can be, but I am a very very heavy mobile phone user and have had rugged phones with ID for years now. By this I mean, I am very clumsy and my phones tend to have a hard life. I've just swopped from a  Ulefone rugged phone without any previous service issues

As a fellow Black View user and enthusiast any insights you can give I would be really very grateful :-)

Ulefone were not on the supported list of phone providers either for ID but I never had any issue with service before

As a non techie, I just can't understand it. I just want it to work - consistently !

Saying that, my contact in the local Currys has been very helpful and patient, issued me with a new SIM, but we still haven't cracked it

It's quite maddening - D

Hello Deirdre

Sorry, I can’t add any more, but one suggestion is trying a SIM card from another supplier, I’ve just moved from SMARTY.  If that works then it proves the phone is not the issue.

As I spend a lot of time on the water and have ‘drowned’ two phones in the past hence move to a rugged Blackview.  It has survived numerous tumbles and dunks in the sea.

Interestingly, my next phone will be a Ulefone, but am hoping my BV will outlive me.

For example, currently my phone appears to be linked to 4G - it says 4G at the top of the screen and I have four full signal bars but I can't make calls. I get the error message "network busy"

Likewise,  any text function - I get the error message "waiting to connect"

This is after doing a network reset
