Question

Can't make calls to landlines. Solution. You need 4G Calling (VoLTE) to be enabled. If no setting on your iPhone, contact iD to enable it.

I couldn’t make calls to landlines (iPhone 15 pro). I followed all the steps suggested on here like resetting network settings, toggling airplane mode on/off etc but nothing worked. ChatGPT told me that I needed 4G Calling (VoLTE) enabled. I did not have the setting on my phone to do that. It was something iD had to do. Their chat support was suprisingly good and enabled it in a few minutes but I went to them with the solution. I wonder why it is not enabled as standard. Seems like it should be.

Hi @UKBobbyG

Thanks for taking the time to share your experience and I’m really sorry for the inconvenience you faced before getting this resolved.

You’re absolutely right that 4G Calling (VoLTE) can impact the ability to make certain calls, including to landlines, especially as networks continue to phase out older 3G services. I’m glad to hear our chat team were able to get this enabled for you quickly once identified.

In terms of why it isn’t always enabled as standard, this can depend on a few factors such as:

  • Device compatibility and software settings
  • Network provisioning at the time the SIM/eSIM is activated
  • Specific account or service configurations

That said, your feedback is completely valid we understand it would be more convenient if this was active by default where possible, and we’ll be sure to pass this on as it’s a great point for improving the overall experience.

It’s great that you were able to find the solution and get it sorted, but we do appreciate that you shouldn’t have had to troubleshoot it yourself first.

Thanks again for sharing your feedback it’s really helpful 👍
