Cant make outbound calls. inbound calls ring out but dont show up on my phone, just get a missed call text

my usual phone is out for repairs. using a Pixel 3a in the interim which is unlocked to all networks.

just noticed today that i cannot receive inbound calls. i called myself from another phone, it rings as normal then goes to vmail. the calls don't come through to the phone, instead, i get a missed call text.

i also cannot make outbound calls, there is no dial tone, just silence.

texts and data work fine.

You need to make sure you have VoLTE enabled or 4g calling in your settings. If not available do a software update on the phone.
