Question

Consistently slow speeds and poor coverage in London

Getting consistently slow speeds, even when it says I'm connect to the network ( oth 4G and 5G), in and around London. Most of the time on my commute from BR1 to Charring Cross the speeds are terrible and can't even do basic functions like stream a podcast - Southwestern WiFi on its train is better!

Been happening on and off for months - even adding this complaint took a while as I couldn't get enough download to load your website!

Time to set out the speeds or let customers move mid contract - the service is truly awful!

Hi @Ricmck90 ,

I’m really sorry you’ve been experiencing slow speeds. I completely understand how frustrating it is if you cannot even stream basic content during your commute.

For iD Mobile, speed can sometimes be affected by network congestion, especially in busy areas such as London during commuting hours, even when the phone shows 4G or 5G signal.

Please try these quick checks:
Restart your phone before your commute
Turn Airplane Mode ON for 30 seconds → OFF to refresh connection
Ensure network selection is set to Automatic
Check that Data Roaming is ON

Since this has been happening for months, please send me a private message with your postcode (BR1–Charing Cross route if possible) and phone model, so I can check network performance in your specific area and escalate if needed.

I’m really sorry again for the inconvenience

On my latest two trips to London I got slow - to - no coverage on iD. Both were weekends so not even commuter times.
At the same time, people with me had perfect coverage - which was crucial as we tried to navigate to meeting places. Thank goodness networks with good coverage, capacity and management.

Hi @nrig,

We're sorry to hear about the issues you've been experiencing with your coverage.

We appreciate how frustrating it can be when the service you're receiving doesn't match what you'd expect, particularly if the coverage checker is showing strong coverage in the areas where you're having problems.

As a first step, we'd recommend checking the coverage checker again to see if there are any reported issues or maintenance affecting the locations concerned: https://www.idmobile.co.uk/help-and-support/coverage-and-networks/network-coverage-checker

If the issue persists, please contact our Live Chat team so they can investigate further and check whether there are any network-related issues affecting your service: https://www.idmobile.co.uk/live-chat

They'll be able to review your account and discuss any available options based on the outcome of their investigation.

Regards,

Thanks Gemma. Indeed frustrating it was, especially as my friends had good connections at the same moment, but they were on bigger networks.

I’ll use the checker next time I'm in London
Regards. N

PS - the link to the checker didn’t work when I tried just now, but it did give me some sales options to upgrade….

Hi @nrig,

I am so sorry to hear of that, here is the correct link: https://www.idmobile.co.uk/help-and-support/coverage.

Additionally, you are able to share the postcode where you are facing issues, so that I can check it for you.

Regards,
