Hi Customer services

Commuting in my car daily, my navigator looses network connection. Does ID system have coverage issues in some area in London & UK. Car navigation is impossible without maps, many times lost and stuck in heavy traffic.

Hi @Mayid

I’m really sorry to hear this I can appreciate how stressful that must be when you’re relying on navigation in busy London traffic.

📶 Coverage explanation

iD Mobile uses the Three network, and while we do provide UK-wide coverage, it’s important to note that:

  • Coverage can vary by location, especially in:
  • Busy urban areas (like parts of London with heavy congestion or tall buildings)
  • Underground or enclosed roads
  • Areas with network congestion at peak times

So yes — it is possible to experience temporary signal drops or reduced data performance in certain spots, which can affect navigation apps.

🔧 Things you can try to improve connection

Here are some steps that often help with stability while driving:

📱 1. Toggle network connection

  • Turn Airplane Mode ON for 10 seconds, then OFF
  • This forces your phone to reconnect to the strongest available mast

📡 2. Enable 4G/5G properly

  • Go to Settings → Mobile Data → Voice & Data
  • Make sure 5G Auto or 4G is selected

🔄 3. Reset network selection

  • Settings → Mobile Data → Network Selection
  • Turn OFF automatic, then re-select the network manually

🗺️ 4. Check data saving / app settings

  • Ensure your maps app (Google Maps / Apple Maps) has background data enabled
  • Turn off any Low Data Mode if active

📍 5. Location-based dropouts

If it happens in the same areas repeatedly, it’s likely:

  • Local signal blackspots
  • Or temporary congestion in those zones

🚗 Important reassurance

Nothing is wrong with your SIM what you’re experiencing is usually related to:

  • Local coverage variation
  • Network congestion during peak travel times

👍 If it continues

If you notice it happening regularly on the same route, we can:

  • Check the specific postcodes for coverage issues
  • Or raise it for network investigation if needed
