sim card not recognised

After being very happy with the service from Id mobile for 4 months my wife's SIM card is now no longer recognised so she now doesn't have any signal, I've rebooted the phone several times and followed recommended fixes from the id mobile website, none of these suggestions have worked.

Get her to pop in to a local Curry’s who can issue new one.

I haven't tried that but I've just ejected the SIM and reinserted it and it seems to be working.

The SIM card has stopped working again, I have been to Currys (id mobile partner) and got a new SIM card if I provide the SIM card number can you activate the SIM card and still keep the same number?
