I have now been to Portugal and Ireland since I joined. Even when showing 5G I can have 2-3MB download and 0.2mb upload. I think the highest I have been is 15MB download but still very slow upload.

Here in the UK  (just now)I have 5G showing and have 95mb download but still less than 2 upload.

is there a setting that’s wrong?

Hi @Ove

Thank you for reaching out, and I'm sorry to hear you're experiencing such poor upload speeds, particularly as you're seeing the same issue both in the UK and while roaming in Portugal and Ireland. I can understand why this would make you wonder whether there's a setting affecting the connection.

The fact that you're seeing 95 Mbps download but less than 2 Mbps upload in the UK suggests that the issue may not simply be a lack of 5G signal. Upload and download performance can be affected differently by network conditions, congestion, handset settings and the way the device is connecting to the network.

I'd recommend trying the following:

  • Restart your handset and allow a few minutes for it to reconnect.
  • Turn Airplane Mode on for around 30–60 seconds, then switch it off.
  • Try 4G only rather than 5G and run another speed test. iD Mobile's own troubleshooting guidance recommends trying 4G/LTE manually where data performance is poor.
  • If you're using a VPN, temporarily disable it and run another test.
  • If possible, test the SIM in another compatible unlocked handset. This will help establish whether the poor upload speed follows the SIM or is specific to your handset.
  • Run several speed tests in the same location and at different times of day, recording both download and upload speeds. This can help identify whether congestion is contributing to the problem.

Because you've experienced the issue both in the UK and while roaming, if the upload speed remains consistently below around 2 Mbps after these checks, we'd recommend contacting us via Live Chat so the Technical Team can investigate the service further. Please provide examples of the affected locations, dates/times and your download/upload results so they have useful information to work with.
