I recently upgraded my phone and have terrible signal now. Missed an important phone call from doctors because it keeps saying Wi-Fi calls only. I never had this problem with my previous phone. I have the Honor Magic 8 Lite.

Hi @RachelHoy666

We’re sorry to hear that you’ve been experiencing signal issues since upgrading your handset, especially after missing an important call. We completely understand how frustrating and concerning this must be.

As the issue started after changing to the Honor Magic 8 Lite and you did not experience this on your previous handset, this may be related to the handset network settings, SIM configuration, or the device attempting to prioritise Wi-Fi Calling over the mobile network.

Please try the following troubleshooting steps:

  1. Restart the handset
  • Power the device off completely for 2 minutes
  • Turn it back on and test calls again
  1. Toggle Airplane Mode
  • Turn Airplane Mode ON for 60 seconds
  • Then turn it OFF again
  1. Set the handset to 4G/LTE preferred

Sometimes the handset may struggle switching between 5G and Wi-Fi Calling, so setting it to 4G can improve call stability.

Steps:

  • Go to Settings
  • Tap Mobile Network
  • Select SIM Management or your iD Mobile SIM
  • Tap Preferred Network Type
  • Select 4G/3G/2G Auto or LTE Preferred
  1. Disable Wi-Fi Calling temporarily to test

As the handset is showing “Wi-Fi calls only”, please test with Wi-Fi Calling disabled.

Steps:

  • Go to Settings
  • Tap Mobile Network
  • Select Wi-Fi Calling
  • Turn Wi-Fi Calling OFF
  • Restart the handset afterwards
  1. Reset Network Settings
  • Go to Settings
  • System & Updates
  • Reset
  • Reset Network Settings

Please note this will remove saved Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connections.

  1. Check for software updates
  • Go to Settings
  • System & Updates
  • Software Update
  • Install any available updates
  1. Reinsert the SIM
  • Remove the SIM card carefully
  • Clean it gently if needed
  • Reinsert it securely
  • Restart the handset
  1. Test the SIM in another handset if possible

This will help determine whether the issue is related to the handset or the network/SIM itself.

If the issue continues after completing the above steps, please let us know:

  • Whether calls fail indoors only or outdoors as well
  • If mobile data is also affected
  • Whether the handset shows any error messages during calls
