Coverage in belfast bt4 is unreliable and has got worse over last month with calls cutting out and breaking up. Really frustrating. Coverage checker says signal is excellent but this isnt the case.  Has something happened?

    Hi @Egplanb

I’m really sorry to hear you’ve been experiencing unreliable signal in BT4 I completely understand how frustrating it is when calls are breaking up, especially when the coverage checker suggests everything should be fine.

The coverage checker is based on predicted outdoor signal, so it doesn’t always reflect temporary issues like local congestion, maintenance, or changes to nearby masts. This means other customers in the area may also notice similar issues from time to time.

If anyone else is experiencing something similar, it’s worth trying a few quick checks:

    • Restart your phone to refresh the network connection
    • Turn Airplane mode on for around 30 seconds, then switch it off
    • Make sure your device software is up to date
    • Try the SIM in another handset (if available) to rule out a device issue
    • Test the signal outdoors or near a window to compare indoor vs outdoor coverage

If the issue continues after trying the above, we’d recommend contacting our Live Chat team so this can be investigated further and, if needed, raised with the network team for that area. You can reach them here:

Thanks for raising this it’s really helpful for highlighting potential local issues, and we appreciate your patience while this gets looked into.

Thanks for coming back to me. I have tried all of this things repeatedly over the months except for swapping sim card to another phone (because i only have one phone, is this unusual!?). My wifi signal is showng full 5g, but the signal has only 1 bar. This is the same for my 2 daughters, and 2 other neighbours in the same street, yet we all drive 1 street away and have no issues.

    Hi @Egplanb

Thank you for letting us know. We can try connecting you to the strongest network mast in your area to see if that makes a difference.

Could you first let me know the make and model of your phone so I can provide the appropriate troubleshooting steps?

    -Michael

I have checked coverage and it says it is excellent but that is not the lived experience of 5 residents in our street.
