Asked to replace SIM card - scam or genuine call?

Hi

Someone called me from 01291200329 saying that Im using an old SIM card and O need to replace it. A new card will be sent to me and I just need to swap it with the old one. So far, so good.

The person on the phone then started asking questions saying they need to verify my identity before they can send the replacement sim. At that point, I just hung up as I felt it was a scam. I dont think think it is normal that Im called and need to verify my identity. Also, surely iD mobile would know my details and address and can just send the replacement  sim with a note.

Has anyone received a similar call?

Thanks

Dom

Hi @ddelvecchio

Thank you for getting in touch with us.

You were right to be cautious based on what you’ve described, this does sound like a scam call.

iD Mobile would not contact you out of the blue asking for personal information or verification details in this manner. While we may occasionally contact customers, we would never pressure you to provide sensitive information unexpectedly over the phone.

You did the right thing by ending the call. We recommend that you:

Do not share any personal or account details with unknown callers
Ignore any further contact from this number
Monitor your account for any unusual activity
Contact us immediately if you notice anything suspicious

Please be reassured that simply receiving the call or hanging up without sharing information will not compromise your account.

If you would like, we can also add extra security checks to your account for additional peace of mind. Please send us private message so that we can add an extra security into your account.

Thank you,
