Beware of scams!

A few days ago I posted a message on this forum about my sim not having been delivered. Soon after, I got an email from someone called Irene Morgan, who claimed to be from ID customer service. She asked for a number where she could call me, which I promptly gave her. I was then on the phone with someone who claimed to be called Jason. He asked for my details, including my credit card, which was supposedly needed for a deposit. Well, today I got multiple payments taken from Pakistan.
Just to say: beware of scammers. If you get an email from someone claiming to be from ID customer service, it’s probably not them. I have seen other people on this forum mention Irene Morgan, so it is not an isolated accident.

    Morning @Isaac Figliuoli,

Thank you for bringing this to my attention. I’ve looked on the backend and cannot find a user called “Irene Morgan”. Please can you share:

    1. A screenshot of the email you were sent?
    2. If you have received any Private Messages here on Community asking for your email address.

    Thanks.

This gang is still active, I got stung by ‘Jason’ and his pals a few weeks ago. My post to the forum was deleted (not by me!) so I can’t confirm but I think ‘Irene’ was involved as well. It’s currently being investigated by iDmobile fraud team.

I only posted to the forum because I couldn’t find a way to contact customer support on the iDmobile website. Too late I found a link for online chat (wish I had seen it sooner, would have saved a lot of grief)

Beware: do NOT accept any offer of support from a forum post, they do not make outbound calls to contact customers. Just use chat to contact the real support team.

    Hi @SteveMGB,

Thank you for raising this and I’m sorry this has happened to you. Do you have any screenshots of any interactions with Jason or Irene?

    Thanks.

I only posted to the forum because I couldn’t find a way to contact customer support on the iDmobile website.

This is a genuine question, but what was so difficult about finding help on the iD Mobile website? It’s a lot more work and, in my opinion, more difficult to locate the community forums, register for an account and create a post requesting help here than it is to simply go to the idmobile.co.uk website and click on Help & Support > Chat to us > Live Chat.

I have no affiliation whatsoever with iD Mobile or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. Did my comment help answer your question? If so, don't forget to mark the response as the Most Helpful Answer.

    Hi,

I have been contacted by Irene Morgan and Jason in the past week. They scammed me into think they were sending a new SIM card because I wanted to change the name of one of my plans to my wife’s name. They said they had to take a security deposit for this, I stupidly gave them my card details and they took a £40 payment under ‘TESCO’, but then refunded it the next day.  Yesterday they called saying there was a problem in sending the new SIM card, so they need to take another payment from another card, but then took a payment from the original card under the name ‘PUBGMOBILE’ for about the same amount.

I then phoned the ID Complaints Team and after explaining what had happened then said that ID mobile would never ask for security deposits. I have contacted my bank, reported both cards I gave them details of as stolen, so will get new cards. I will also report the recent transcation from ‘PUBGMOBILE’ as fraud.

Irene Morgan is still claiming to be a member of the ID Mobile support team, and that she use this specific Gmail address for direct customer correspondence in certain escalated cases.

So please do not accept any calls claiming to be from ID mobile and do not response to any emails from Irene Morgan email address.

I had someone call me asking all kinds of questions and bank information after i went online looking for a way to stop my sim as i lost my phone. I have since used the live chat which was really good and solved the problem. I have found my phone but still receiving calls, I have attached the email i had from them they called from a 020 number and a mobile on WhatsApp.

    Hey @KevinA,

Thanks for sharing this. I’m glad our Live Chat team were able to resolve the issue.

I can confirm the email you received is not from iD Mobile and we do not use WhatsApp to contact our customers.

Please can you share the email address and mobile numbers that have contacted you? I’ll then report this to our fraud team.

    Thanks.
