Question

Displaying my name when calling someone

When I make calls to someone who doesn’t have me saved in their contacts I would like my name to display rather than just my mobile number.  Google suggests this is something that can be done via the mobile provider rather than from my phone (iPhone) - how do I do this please?

Hi @Julie Leonard, I am sorry however we cannot do that from our side, and this has to be done manually on your phone. Go to your iPhone's settings on the home screen and select “phone.” Then, go to “show my caller ID.” This will show you a button that you can toggle on and off whenever you'd like. When this setting is off, anyone you call won't see your number or name.

    Thanks,

Thank you, that’s switched on but if I’m not in someone’s contacts it just shows my number (I use this phone for work reasons and a lot of people don’t answer if they see a mobile number, I’d like to make my name come up on their screen - it must be possible as I’ve received calls before showing someone’s name even if I don’t have their number saved, unless this is specific to certain networks)

Thank you @Julie Leonard, please see if the below are correct and see if the option for “contacts only” or “everyone” is selected, you will select “everyone”.
Set up your Contact Poster: To create a custom name and poster that others will see, open the Contacts app, tap "My Card" at the top, tap "Edit," and then tap your contact photo to set it up.
Use the correct name: Some apps or services may display the name you've set in your general phone settings. To change this, go to Settings > General > About > Name.

    Thanks,

Hi, I went to My Card on contacts, the name is saved on there but I can’t see any option for my contacts/everyone?

    Hi @Julie Leonard ,

Thanks for reaching out! It sounds like you're trying to view all your contacts but only seeing the "My Card" entry. Here are a few things you can try:

    1.  Make sure it's set to display contacts from all sources (e.g., SIM card, phone storage, Google/iCloud account).
    2.  If your contacts are saved to an account (like Google or iCloud), ensure that account is added and syncing properly on your new device.
    3. If your contacts were saved to your old SIM, you may need to import them manually. Go to your Conta

Make sure the Contacts app has permission to access your contacts in your phone’s settings.

If you’re still having trouble, feel free to reach out via Socials, Live Chat, Community, or email us at socialqueries@idmobile.co.uk and we’ll be happy to help further.

cts app > Settings > Import/Export > Import from SIM.

Thanks but that’s nothing to do with the issue of my name not displaying on some else’s phone
