For a phone and sim contract, will it start on the day if purchase, the day it is shipped or the day it is delivered?

I am looking to get a new phone and sim, and the one I am looking at says it is available on 9th September. 
 

if I was to order today, would the contract start from the 9th when I am assuming it will be shipped? Or today as the first payment is taken?
