When purchasing a plan i chose the option to keep my number. why have i been sent a new one?

When purchasing a plan i chose the option to keep my number. why have i been sent a new one?

When signing up for the plan, I could also see at the bottom of every page that I had selected to keep my number but now I have been sent an email informing me of my new number. What's going on? Can I get this sorted?
