why do i need a second account for new ipad cellular?

I’ve just bought myself a new iPad Pro and I opted for the cellular version as I always believe in getting the best spec I can afford.  Future-proofing !  
 
now I need to know how to get best use of it !

I believe I need to get a new mobile account to use it - how ?  and then what ??  
Can anyone explain in simple terms how I can use this feature to its fullest - or point me to an article or YouTube please

Are you looking to insert an iD Mobile SIM in the iPad?

No. I don’t think there is a slot for a SIM Card.  
I expected to be told to get an eSIM.

Hi there ​@John Barrow, unfortunately, we don’t officially support the usage of our SIM cards in devices outside handsets, and the handsets on our website. Therefore, we cannot guarantee that our SIM cards will work with an iPad, especially for celluar functions.

 

By all means you’re welcome to try it, as I have seen it work for other customers, but similarly, we cannot guarantee it will work, or how long for.
