What are the rules for international calling with iD Mobile? Here's everything you need to know about calling to and from abroad.
What is international calling?
Calling abroad means making a call from the UK to another country. This is different from Roaming, which is when you use your phone while you're travelling.
International calls aren't included in your monthly allowance, so you'll be charged extra for them. The cost depends on where you're calling.
You can check the rate for the country you want to call on our charges page: View International Charges
Top tip: Calling family or friends abroad on WhatsApp, Skype or FaceTime? These use the internet, not the phone network. If you're both connected to Wi-Fi, voice and video calls are free.
Calling abroad a lot the traditional way? A Call Abroad add-on gives you a fixed number of minutes each month from £5, instead of paying per-minute rates. Check out the Community article below for more helpful information:
How do I make an international call?
Replace the leading 0 of the number with the international dialling code, using the + symbol, or dial 00 followed by the code. On most phones, press and hold the 0 key until + appears, then dial the country code and the rest of the number.
For example, to call a French mobile (07 XX XX XX XX), dial +33 or 0033, then the number without its leading 0: +33 7 XX XX XX XX.
Once you've dialled a number abroad, save it to your contacts. You can then just tap their name next time, instead of re-entering the code.
Does it cost me to receive a call from abroad?
No. If someone calls you from abroad while you're in the UK, you won't be charged a penny.
Are Channel Islands and Isle of Man calls international?
Yes. Calls to landlines or mobiles in the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man are charged as international, even though they're part of the British Isles.
