On 2 June 2025, Three UK – the network partner of iD Mobile – merged with Vodafone UK to create a new company, VodafoneThree. Their goal is to build the UK’s biggest and best network, backed by an £11 billion investment.

As a valued iD Mobile customer, we want to reassure you that nothing is changing with your plan, price or terms. You’ll continue to enjoy the same great value you signed up for, now with the added benefit of major network improvements.

So, what’s changing?

Over the coming months, VodafoneThree will be making significant upgrades to its network. Until now, your phone has only connected to the Three network. With new technology rolling out, it will also connect to the Vodafone network. That means your phone will automatically switch to the stronger signal, giving you better coverage and faster speeds.

Around 600 sites have already been upgraded, with 9,000 more planned by June 2026. As iD Mobile runs on the Three UK network, you’ll benefit from these improvements. There’s nothing you need to do.

Here’s what you can expect:

  1. Improved reliability
More network capacity means a stronger, more reliable connection, even at busy times.
  2. Faster speeds
You could see a speed boost of 20% or more, making streaming smoother, downloads quicker, and everyday browsing better.
  3. Less buffering
The network will be strengthened where it’s needed most, so you can stay connected with fewer interruptions.

FAQs.

What is VodafoneThree?
VodafoneThree is the new company formed from the merger of Three UK, the network partner of iD Mobile, and Vodafone UK.

Why did Three and Vodafone merge?
The companies merged to build a better mobile network. With a planned £11 billion investment, the aim is to improve coverage, speed and reliability across the UK.

Are the Three and Vodafone brands changing?
No. Three, Vodafone and partner networks, including iD Mobile, will continue to operate as usual for the foreseeable future.

What are the benefits for iD Mobile customers?
From mid-2025 in upgraded areas, your phone will be able to connect to both the Three and Vodafone networks. It will automatically switch to the stronger signal. This gives you better coverage and faster speeds at no extra cost. Your phone will still show iD Mobile.

How much faster could my speeds be?
Initial network upgrades have delivered an average 4G speed increase of around 20% in some areas. Actual results vary by location and phone.

When will I see the benefits?
Upgrades are rolling out now. Around 600 sites have already been upgraded, with 9,000 more planned by June 2026. Many customers will notice improvements during 2025 and 2026.

Will these network upgrades help at busy times and in areas of low coverage?
Yes. Extra capacity and the ability to move customers to less busy sites should keep performance steadier at peak times. Using both networks also helps fill coverage gaps, improving indoor and outdoor coverage.

Will my plan or price change?
No. Your plan, price and terms are not changing because of the merger. Standard annual price changes, such as CPI adjustments or fixed-price increases on some plans, still apply.

Will my phone work differently or show Vodafone?
No. Everything will work as it does today. Your phone will continue to display iD Mobile. The switch between networks happens in the background.

Will my service be affected during the upgrades?
Most customers will not notice any issues. Some areas may see temporary drops in service while work is carried out. If your service becomes unusable or poor, contact us via Live Chat and we will help.

What is MOCN and how does it work?
Multi-Operator Core Network (MOCN) is a technology that lets your phone use both networks in the background. Your phone automatically connects to the best available signal. You do not need to do anything.

How can I avoid fraud related to the merger?
Fraudsters may pretend to be from iD Mobile, Vodafone or Three. You do not need to change your SIM, number or personal details because of the merger. Never share one-time passcodes or personal information with anyone who contacts you unexpectedly. If something does not seem right, report it to Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040, then contact us via Live Chat so we can support you.
