What is 4G?
4G is the fourth generation of mobile network technology. It offers faster data speeds, improved connectivity, and reduced buffering compared to older 3G networks. It is designed to give you a smoother experience when streaming videos, browsing the web, or making video calls.
How does 4G work?
4G operates on advanced bandwidth that handles data much more efficiently than 3G. Think of it like a highway: where 3G is a single lane road that can get congested, 4G is a multi-lane motorway that allows more traffic (data) to move at higher speeds simultaneously. This means you get a stronger, more consistent signal even in busy places.
How will I know that I’m on 4G?
To use 4G, you need a 4G-capable phone and to be in a coverage area. When you are connected, you will see a 4G or LTE icon at the top of your screen next to the signal bars.
Note: If you are connected to Wi-Fi, the 4G icon may not appear. Disconnect from Wi-Fi to check your mobile data status.
Am I in a 4G area?
Most likely! Our 4G network covers 99.8% of the UK outdoor population. You can check the exact signal strength in your location with our coverage checker here.
What is 4G (VoLTE) Calling?
4G Calling, also known as VoLTE (Voice over LTE), is a service that lets you make and receive calls over the 4G network rather than switching down to 2G or 3G. This provides clearer audio quality and faster connection times.
