My contract runs out next month (16/11) and i have had a text from iD to say its time to upgrade. Can i upgrade, still on iD, through mobiles.co.uk without incurring a charge?

Reason i am wanting to do this is i have a voucher and get free galaxy buds through them and not iD.

Thanks :)

Hi @Luke Edwards

On the Mobile.co.uk website it states ‘Pick up an great upgrade deal on iD Mobile’ which suggests that this would be an upgrade from another network.

Your best bet is to phone the sales team on 02071391397  (between 9am-6pm, Monday-Friday) to see if this deal means a straight swap or if it is just for customers wishing to move and upgrade from another provider.

You can also talk to someone on Live Chat with regards to this:-
https://www.idmobile.co.uk/live-chat

Type ‘talk to a person’ when you open the dialogue box to bypass the chatbot.
Please be patient as the agents handle a few conversations at any one time so there will be a delay in connecting with an available agent and also any replies to your query.

Good luck x

Turns out you can! Got a much better deal!

Hi @Luke Edwards

No, you generally cannot use Mobiles.co.uk to upgrade your existing iD Mobile plan and keep your number; instead, you must use the "Upgrades" or "Eligibility Checker" section on the iD Mobile website or app.
If you find a better deal on Mobiles.co.uk, you must perform a "triangle port," which involves porting your number to a temporary Pay As You Go (PAYG) SIM on another network, waiting for the transfer to complete, and then porting it back to a new iD Mobile account with the desired deal.

Why You Can't Directly Upgrade

New vs. Upgrade:
Purchasing a new plan through Mobiles.co.uk is treated as a new plan, not an upgrade, and you won't be able to transfer your existing number.
Separate Accounts:
Buying a new plan will create a new, separate account with iD Mobile, resulting in a new phone number.

How to Perform a Triangle Port to Keep Your Number
  1. Get a PAC code:
Request a PAC code from iD Mobile for the number you wish to keep.
  2. Port to Another Network:
Purchase a temporary PAYG SIM from a different mobile provider (e.g., SMARTY, as they also use the 3 network and have good value PAYG SIM deals).
  3. Transfer Your Number:
Give your PAC code to the new PAYG provider to transfer your number from iD Mobile to their network.
  4. Wait for Completion:
Allow at least 24 hours for the number to fully transfer to the new network.
  5. Request a New PAC:
Once the number is on the PAYG SIM, request a new PAC code from that temporary provider.
  6. Port Back to iD:
Use the new PAC code to port your number to the new iD Mobile contract you found on Mobiles.co.uk.

You could also try phoning the sales team on 02071391397 (between 9am-6pm, Monday-Friday) to see if they are able to offer a simialr deal.

    Good luck x

Hi, thanks for the answer.

This is not classed a new contract, its classed as an upgrade and they ask for my iD mobile number etc. The only networks available in the upgrade section are iD and Vodafone, so i wonder if they have an agreement?
