how to keep my phone number when moving from sim only deal on id mobile to monthly contract with new phone on id mobile from offer on carphone warehouse

I currently have a sim only deal at £5 a month on id mobile. I've found a deal on carphone warehouse for a Google pixel 9a phone with sim on id mobile with unlimited data, texts, and minutes at 14.99 a month and £119 upfront payment for phone that I want to take. How can I take this deal and stay with id mobile while keeping my same phone  number? I tried requesting a pacs code a but this doesn't work as I'm not changing mobile network. I would like to stay with id mobile on this new deal and phone but also keep my number. The equivalent deal as an upgrade on the id mobile app is 24.99 monthly with free handset which would be £5 more per month compared to the carphone warehouse deal when including the payment of the phone.

To take advantage of the deal and keep your existing number, you’d need to port-out and then port-in the number you want to keep, @Saturate.

Port-out to a PAYG plan, with someone like ASDA Mobile, giffgaff, Lebara, etcetera.

Once your number works with your new PAYG provider, port-back to iD to the iD account you want to keep.

Hey there @Saturate, we hope the kind advice from @andewhite was able to help. You would indeed need to upgrade via the iD Mobile app/website to keep your number with us, or complete a triangle port, as advised above.

Thanks,

Tyler

Thanks for the info. That seems a lot of hassle  and risk to move my number on the same provider. I've found a better deal with another provider that is a better offer than the upgrade deal on the id app. I would have stayed with id if my number could have been transferred over more easily with the carphone warehouse deal, but I'll likely cancel my current sim with id and get a pacs code for my new provider to keep my number.  Shame, unfortunately id have just lost out on at least £480 from me in the next 2 years

I am in a similar situation in that i have a Samsung phone which is now out of contract with ID and I want to move to a much higher spec Samsung. It is not available as an upgrade but is available via Carphonewarehouse though still on the ID network. I understand from the above that in order to keep my phone number i will have temporarily to move to a Payasyougo with another provider. I would get a PAC code to move my number to them on my existing phone, and when that all works I would then ask the new provider for another PAC code, and at that stage I could then buy the new Samsung via Carphonewarehouse and retain my number. Is this correct?

I don't really understand Sim cards, it is an age thing! Would the new Payasyougo number need a new Sim card, and would i then have to transfer everything on to it? And when I move for the second time would that have to be done again?

Thanks.

Hi @KeaMan,

Thanks for getting in touch.

You are correct that iD Mobile doesn’t support internal number transfers between accounts. While the route you’ve outlined, moving your number to another network and then back again using PAC codes, can work, it’s worth noting that this process does carry some risk, including potential delays or temporary loss of service.

In terms of your PAYG question, you may be issued a new SIM card by the provider you move to, although this can vary depending on the network. We’d recommend checking this directly with them. The process itself is usually straightforward, your number would transfer from us to the new provider, and then back to us once you initiate the second transfer.

If you decide to go ahead, just make sure each transfer has fully completed before starting the next step to avoid any issues.

Hope that helps, but feel free to come back if you’ve got any other questions.

Regards,
